Wellness: Finding Your Balance

student balancing on skateboardYour health always has to take priority. Pay attention to your physical and mental well-being, no matter how many demands there are on your time as a student.

Job #1 is to familiarize yourself with Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS), an outpatient center designed to address all aspects of health – with medical, mental health, wellness, and health education – all under one roof. SHCS provides both primary and mental health care to all registered UCSF students.

Across the ten-campus UC system, enrollees in the University of California Student Health Insurance Plan (UC SHIP) are covered for the medical, mental health, dental, vision, prescription and travel insurance benefits provided by the plan.

Over the years, SHCS has offered a number of workshops and events for students, exploring a broad range of topics such as nutrition, mindfulness, adjusting to academic life at UCSF, and more. See the workshop archive or, for now, the stay-home wellness resources on offer during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tend to your physical well-being by accessing primary and preventative care, taking advantage of UCSF's two comprehensive fitness facilities, joining a recreational sports league, or accessing a range of outdoor expeditions and classes.

As social animals, people rely on one another for their well-being. Don't go it alone! Need suggestions for building your community at UCSF?

By the way, your mom just called. She wants to make sure you're eating right and suggests you try some of these recipes.

Many campus offices continue to operate on a hybrid in-person/remote basis due to the continuing COVID-19 pandemic. Please check with individual student services offices about how to access their services.
